Take A Number
Another cover for another book I’m writing. Take a Number is about a ghost struggling with a deeply bureaucratic afterlife system and trying to find some sort of happiness in limbo.
I had a very clear idea of what I wanted the cover to look like almost immediately. Within the story the afterlife system is similar to a DOL. The spirits of the dead are given a ticket with a number on it and must wait until their number is called to pass on to their afterlife. I took a stock image of the sort of pull-tickets used in places that usually have long lines and put a skull on it instead of a number to make it clear that death is in some way a part of the story. I then downloaded a font that looks like the signs above the machines that distribute the pull-tickets and used some effects on photoshop to make the title look like it was glowing.
It’s a fairly minimalistic cover, but I feel that it is still eye-catching and intriguing enough that somebody would pick the book up.
